WHAT HAS HAPPENED AND WHAT IS GOING
TO HAPPEN !!!!!!!
First an update on past
events ------
WVDS sponsored Seminars – AMAZING
NEW BEHAVIORS : Bob Singer put much
effort into getting dogs, participants, demonstrations & equipment together
for this free seminar. It was well
attended and what fun we had on a lovely day.
Our dogs dropped balls into cans (training for putting up your toys),
retrieved rings from stakes and then put them back, found hidden & mixed
objects using scent discrimination, and for the grand finale –4 Border collies
owned by Bob Singer and Suzanne Anaya sat side by side and passed plastic rings
down the row from mouth to mouth and
then back again. Amazing is the right
word.
In May WVDS
sponsored an ASCA agility and obedience trial.
Sandy Lazarus entered
her two shelties in the pre-novice obedience and took first and second place in
the obedience ring. Nancy Tomasheski
took 1st place in novice with Gracie in the obedience ring. By changing to ASCA rather than UKC obedience
trials we are able to get local judges and the cost of the event is not
prohibitive. We definitely will
sponsor fall obedience trials in
conjunction with agility again.
Lynne Watson writes: The
ASCA Agility Trial in May went very well. We had a very full entry, thus
had rather long days, but in doing so we managed to award over 312 Qualifying
ribbons, including two ATCHes.
Congratulations to Krystal Emery with Rodeo and Kyle Trumbull-Clark with
Gig. Both teams had lovely Gamblers runs to earn their ATCH.
HIT went to Michelle Watson with Tarna- you couldn't stop that team from
Qing!
HIT Veteran was earned by my own awesome Grendel.
I want to thank everyone who volunteered and worked so hard make the
trial be a success. I apologize if I leave anyone out-- it is just a sign
of advancing age.
Lorraine Cirinelli and Paul Kirk and ASCSC who, as our ASCA sanctioning
club were essential. Pete and Kate Uphold (Spencer, too) did dual-duty
with Equipment and Hospitality and kept us hydrated and happy.
Larry Ribbeck did an awesome job building the 30 (?!!) courses needed over the
2 days. And he competed in Agility and Obedience -- successfully, too,
might I add! Huge job, huge applause!!
Thanks also to Elaine Garvey for keeping the volunteers organized and busy,
keeping those rings going and getting us done!
Mandolina wrangled our great Judge Mike Willis as well as offered her home for
ribbon crafts. Same goes for Barbara and Nancy for getting volunteers to
help complete the ribbon-switching. I heard comments about how pretty
they were.
Nancy and Ed Graczyk kept those ribbon boxes full for competitors to grab their
loot. Big job, as there were lots of successes.
And as always thanks to Judy Turner who is always ready to help with Friday
load-ins and course building.
And to all of the other volunteers too numerous to mention by name who pitched
in when-and wherever needed, a hearty THANK YOU!!
FLYBALL UPDATE: : The Woofstock 2007 tournament was in April
. Here’s the commentary from the judge:
My
memories from the Woofstock Love-in:
- the Doors booming through lovely Santa Clarita on Sunday morning,
- getting a sun burn on Saturday
- tie died shirts everywhere complemented by candy love beads! Yum!
- Lisa and Phyllis doing the Home Shopping Network shtick
- Howdy's patience - waiting - waiting - Joe?
- the fun that Alaska brought to the event - Thanks Curtis & Stacy for
being Flyball missionaries
- Canadian weather on Sunday and line judges in gloves and bundled in
blankets
- the entire Stop Making Sense album played just for me!
- Dave Gillette handling Cody in start - too many memories
Rock N Rovers really did rock this weekend! I had a wonderful
weekend
and want to say Thanks! to all for inviting me out to judge, laugh, tell
stories, make new friends and to enjoy everyone's racing. Alaska
went
wild and it was a real treat to so many people having so much
fun. The
Junior handlers rocked but so did the Seniors!
Thanks all! Glenn Hamilton
Rob
Joubert writes: I would like
to say a very BIG thank you to Nancy, Melodie, Elaine Garvey, Nancy &
Sanford King four helping us on either Saturday or Sunday. And an even
BIGGER thank you to Doug and Denise Hansford for helping us out BOTH
days. I know that Shari wants to thank Kate for setting up the
hospitality stuff and I want to thank Sharon for setting up the table scribe
stuff for us. Without your help we
would not have had such a great and successful tournament
.AND COMING UP FOR WVDS……………………………
Another seminar that our dogs can attend. August 26 is the next dog / member seminar
scheduled “DOG DANCING – K9
Freestyle workshop” Plan on attending – There will be a small
charge for members - $25 for each
class(a bargain!) by the professional instructor– and just lots of fun. Non Members can sign a liability waiver and
attend for $30.
If you ever wanted to
try out “freestyle” (dancing) with your dog as your partner now is your
opportunity!Judy Gamet, B.S. Dance Education, has been a dance
teacher since age 13. She has combined
her love of dance with her love of dogs to create Motion Dynamics fitness for
dogs. There will be 2 workshops
offered, each approx 1 ˝ hours.
1)An
introduction to Canine Freestyle. This workshop is designed for any team no
matter how novice or how experienced in other sports they are. They will
learn a basic vocabulary in order to advance to the next workshop below. Some
obedience training is helpful.
Workshop materials such as, manual, audio CD and video DVD will be offered for
those to practice at home at an additional cost.
2)
Creating your own routine – open to handler and dogs with some freestyle experience “or” to those who have
participated in the the Introductory class above

our website – www.wvds.org
Classes

WVDS USDAA TRIALS
Our next WVDS USDAA trial is July 21 & 22, 2007, again at the Industry Hills site. This is an ideal site for the hot summer as it prevents the heat from being a factor with the covered location and “misters” to cool the arena . Please get in touch with Sharon Kihara (sharonkihara@aol.com) or Judy Turner (baytwist@sbcglobal.net) regarding any interest in all or some of this big job, even if you could only help on Friday, Saturday, or on Sunday or Monday.
ANNUAL MEETING: Our annual meeting and breakfast to vote in new board members will be held on August 12, 2007, at the Northrup Grumman field starting at 9 am. There will be breakfast snacks and drinks provided for all. J9’s K9’s will provide games for fun for all of us. West Valley Dog Sports is donating $9000 (nine thousand dollars) to various charitable non profit dog organizations – these will be announced at the meeting. This money was raised by your club’s activities – we should be proud of this.

been chosen by Pedigree Dog Food to travel to Mexico City to appear at the
World dog Show in May. Baldwin has had
a significant recovery from a torn ACL and major surgery on his left knee. He received post-surgery therapy at Dog

And in Passing – It is with great sadness
that a founding member of WVDS, Meredith Bullock's Baloo has crossed the
Rainbow Bridge. I believe she was somewhere between the age of 18 to 20
years. Meredith has not been actively participating lately (I miss
my traveling companion), but was an active participant (Show Secretary) for
many years. Baloo was one of the top dogs in the early stages of this
sport. She also has another JRT, Ruffian. Meredith is
currently very active in teaching (children with special needs ) and
teaching horses and their humans to compete in competitive jumping. With Our Deepest Sympathy Sharon Kihara Merlin, Mark & Mindy
