GENERAL
- Agility/Flyball/Disc
Dog/Obedience practice sessions are open only to members and proposed
members. Each member or proposed member is responsible to run their
dog(s) in a proficient and safe manner. Club equipment proficiency
guidelines are listed below.
- All handlers
involved with practice sessions must assist with equipment set-up or
takedown or both.
- All dogs not on
the agility, disc dogs, flyball or obedience courses during a practice
session must be under the control of a handler, either on leash or
otherwise confined. The only exception to this rule would be when
handlers warm up or exercise in the far corners of the practice site,
away from the practice area. It is the responsibility of all club
members to be aware of the working “flow” of all practice sessions and
to respect these areas and to take care not to create undue distraction
to working teams.
- Use of the
Northrop Grumman site is a privilege that has been graciously extended
to WVDS. Northrop Grumman employees also use the facilities,
especially the baseball diamond. It is the responsibility of
every club member to be courteous, keep their dogs or children under
control at all times while at the Northrop Grumman facility. WVDS
members whose children or dogs create unnecessary disturbances or
repeatedly engage in unsafe or disruptive behavior will be asked to
leave.
- There are feral
cats at this facility. Northrop Grumman has built houses to feed
and shelter these cats. WVDS members are to keep their dogs under
control, away from the food, the houses and the cats if they should be
around.
- Training
collars, such as choke chain, pinch or similar collars commonly used in
training shall not be permitted in the practice rings, warm-up areas or
other spectator areas. Spectator areas include Show’N’Go’s,
sanctioned trials, tournaments and matches, Fun Days, demonstrations or
any public club event. Collars similar to the above shall be
evaluated as “training collars” based upon their intended function and
appearance. Shock collars or similar devices not deemed to be in
the best interest of dog sports shall not be permitted on the practice
grounds or at any club function
- CLEAN UP AFTER
YOUR DOG!! If you become aware that a dog is defecating and the dog's
handler seems to be unaware, please inform them to clean up after their
dog. If you should find dog droppings left by someone else,
please clean this up.
EQUIPMENT PROFICIENCY

AGILITY PRACTICE PLANS AND HANDLER
RESPONSIBILITIES
- The focus of
practice sessions will be exercises and practice needs for intermediate
and advanced handlers. When there is sufficient need, available
equipment and personnel, a separate exercise area may be set up for
puppies and less experienced dogs still working on lead. If this
area has not been set up, please be considerate when working
inexperienced dogs within the regular practice area. Please check
with the agility practice coordinator and request permission to set up
a small area to work your dog. This area would be your
responsibility to bring out the equipment and to put it away.
- These sessions
are for individual practice and are not to be equated with class
instruction. Each handler is present to train his or her own
dog.
- Before using
equipment, note the exercise patterns designated by the agility
practice coordinator.
- Take turns on
the use of designated sequences. Be careful not to interrupt the
flow of others working on the designated exercises.
FLYBALL PRACTICE PLANS AND HANDLER
RESPONSIBILITIES
- The focus of
practice sessions will be exercises and practice needs for the
Rock’N’Rovers flyball team. When there is sufficient need,
available equipment and personnel, a separate exercise area may be set
up for non-team members. If this area has been set up, please be
considerate when working inexperienced dogs within the regular practice
area. Please check with the flyball practice coordinator and
request permission to set up a small area to work your dog. This
area would be your responsibility to bring out the equipment and to put
it away
- These sessions
are for team practice and are not to be equated with class
instruction. Each handler is present to train his or her own dog
with the team.
- Before using
equipment, note the exercise patterns designated by the flyball
practice coordinator.
WVDS
reserves the right to excuse from practice any dogs
or handlers who
violate the above guidelines.
